Xilinx (AMD)
Xilinx, Inc., founded in 1984 and headquartered in San Jose, California, was an American technology company renowned for inventing the first commercially viable field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and pioneering the fabless semiconductor manufacturing model. Its highly flexible and adaptive processing platforms, including major product families such as the high-performance Virtex, mid-range Kintex, and low-cost Artix series, have served markets from cloud computing and 5G to automotive and aerospace. Key innovations included the introduction of the 28nm Zynq system-on-chip (SoC) and the adaptive compute acceleration platform (ACAP). In February 2022, AMD completed the acquisition of Xilinx in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $350 billion. Following the acquisition, Xilinx operated as an independent subsidiary of AMD for a period before its product lines were fully integrated and rebranded under AMD, significantly enhancing AMD's offerings in adaptive computing solutions.
